What the time unit converter does
This tool converts an amount of time from one unit into all the others: seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years. Type a number, pick the source unit, and every other equivalent appears instantly. All of the math runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded anywhere.
It is handy for turning a project duration into hours, checking how many seconds are in a week, estimating how many months 500 days add up to, or translating a service’s age from years into days. Instead of chaining multiplications by hand, you let the conversion happen and copy whichever result you need.

The method: everything routes through seconds
The conversion uses the second as a bridge unit. Each unit has a fixed factor in seconds; to convert, we first turn the input into seconds and then divide by the target unit’s factor:
seconds = value × source_factor
result = seconds ÷ target_factor
The factors in seconds are exact for every unit up to the week. The month and the year, however, are averages: a calendar year lasts 365.25 days once leap years are counted, and the month is defined as one twelfth of that year, or 30.4375 days. That is why one year equals exactly 12 average months.

Worked example
Convert 1 year into every unit. Start from its factor: 1 year = 31,557,600 seconds. Divide that total by each factor:

The result confirms the definition: an average year is exactly 12 average months and 365.25 days. As a quick check with a smaller unit, 2 hours is 2 × 3600 = 7200 seconds, which is 120 minutes and 7200 ÷ 86400 = 0.0833333 days.
Frequently asked questions
How many seconds are in a day?
A day has 86,400 seconds: 24 hours × 60 minutes × 60 seconds. A week has 604,800 seconds, seven times that amount. These are exact values, with no averaging involved.
Why are the month and year averages?
Because their real length varies. Months have 28, 29, 30 or 31 days, and one year in four is a leap year with 366 days. To get a single consistent number, the tool uses the mean year of 365.25 days and the mean month of 30.4375 days (365.25 ÷ 12). If you need the length of a specific month, count its actual number of days.
How many hours are in a year?
An average year has 8,766 hours: 365.25 days × 24 hours. A common 365-day year has 8,760 hours and a 366-day leap year has 8,784 hours; 8,766 sits right in the middle.
How many days is one million seconds?
One million seconds is 1000000 ÷ 86400 = 11.5741 days, a little over eleven and a half days. As a fun contrast, one billion seconds is more than 31 years. Type the value into the tool and choose “Seconds” to see it instantly.
