What the salary converter is for

Pay rarely comes quoted the same way twice. A job posting lists an hourly rate, your payslip shows a monthly figure, the contract states an annual number, and a freelancer bills by the day. Comparing them is a headache when every figure lives in a different unit. This converter puts them all side by side: type a gross salary, say which period it’s expressed in, and instantly see the hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly equivalents.

It’s handy for comparing two offers quoted in different units, for figuring out what your hour is actually worth, or for budgeting how much lands each month when you’re paid by the hour. Everything runs in your browser — no data is sent or stored.

How to use it

  1. Salary: enter the amount you already know.
  2. Period: pick whether that amount is per hour, day, week, month or year.
  3. Hours per week: how many hours you work weekly (40 by default).
  4. Days per week: how many days you work weekly (5 by default).

The moment you change any field, the results card refreshes all five periods.

How the math works

The standard method is built on the work week and 52 weeks a year. With an hourly wage h, weekly hours H and weekly days D:

  • Annual = h × H × 52
  • Weekly = Annual ÷ 52
  • Monthly = Annual ÷ 12
  • Daily = Weekly ÷ D
  • Hourly = Annual ÷ (H × 52)

When you enter the salary in another period, it’s first converted to annual (multiply by 12 if monthly, by 52 if weekly, by D × 52 if daily), and every other period is derived from there. That’s why the converter stays consistent in any direction.

Hourly equivalents (40 h/week, 5 days)

Worked example

Take 100 per hour, with 40 hours per week and 5 days per week:

  • Annual = 100 × 40 × 52 = 208,000
  • Weekly = 208,000 ÷ 52 = 4,000
  • Monthly = 208,000 ÷ 12 = 17,333.33
  • Daily = 4,000 ÷ 5 = 800
  • Hourly = 208,000 ÷ (40 × 52) = 100

Everything ties out: start at 100 per hour and you land back on 100 per hour, a sign the conversions are consistent.

Frequently asked questions

Is the result gross or net?

It’s gross: the salary before taxes, social security and any deductions. Your take-home pay will always be lower and depends on the tax rules where you live. For that, reach for a net salary calculator built for your country.

Why use 52 weeks instead of the exact number in a year?

Because 52 weeks is the standard convention in payroll math: 52 × 7 = 364 days, almost the full year. It keeps the arithmetic clean and matches how most payrolls and job offers are quoted. A year actually holds 52.14 weeks, so the gap is tiny.

What if I work more or fewer than 40 hours?

Adjust the “Hours per week” field. Work 30 hours and the annual equivalent drops proportionally; work 48 and it rises. The hourly rate changes least because it’s the base, while the monthly and yearly figures depend directly on how many hours you cover.

Can I compare an hourly offer with a monthly one?

Yes — that’s exactly the point. Enter one of them, read its equivalent in the other’s unit, and compare directly. Just make sure you use the same hours and days per week for both so the comparison is fair.

Does it include overtime or bonuses?

No. The converter assumes a uniform payment for the period you enter. Overtime, commissions and annual bonuses should be added separately, since they usually follow different rates or rules.
